Upcoming Events @ Christ Church

Picture
Norfolk County residents are invited to the village of Vittoria on Saturday for a Christmas carol sing–a–long.

All are welcome to snuggle under blankets in the pews of 181-year-old Christ Church Anglican at 7 p.m. and sing festive songs by candlelight.

Take an hour to unplug from the pre-Christmas chaos and make spirits bright inside the only surviving Georgian wood-block church in Canada, complete with a human-powered antique pump organ.

“Singing carols in this beautiful historic building feels like time travel,” said Christ Church trustee James Christison.

“You feel as though you are stepping into Dickens’ romanticized world – candles flicker, hymns echo, and Christmas magic wraps you in pure nostalgia.”

The sing-a-long will feature traditional and modern carols, with some favourites for the kids.

All ages are welcome. Hot cider will be served to keep hands and voices warm.

Adding musical splendor are special guests Rev. Leah Arvidsson from the Parish of Long Point Bay on guitar and Jenn Day from Kammerchor London on baroque trumpet.

Norfolk residents have been singing Christmas carols inside Christ Church for nearly 200 years. This Saturday, come explore this one-of-a-kind building, enjoy the best acoustics in the county, and add your voice to the chorus.

“Bring your voices. Bring your harmonies. Be part of our caroling tradition,” said Arvidsson, who is the reverend attached to this historic chapel of ease.

“This evening has songs for everyone to enjoy. “I pray you’ll leave uplifted and ready for the Christmas Spirit!”

Admission to the sing-a-long is free, though donations to the food bank will be gratefully accepted.

Christ Church Anglican is found at 7 Lamport St., Vittoria. Free street parking is available.
